Head Office OpeningForestrySA’s new Head Office in Mt Gambier was officially opened by the Minister for Forests, Hon Rory McEwen on August 23, 2007. The opening included an indigenous ceremony by the Tal – kin – jeri dance troupe to promote and honour aboriginal culture. The ceremony included a number of traditional dances and a smoking ceremony and procession through the new building. The smoking ceremony was followed by a welcome from Chief Executive Mr Brian Farmer, an address by Chairman Mr John Ross and then the official unveiling of a commemorative plaque by the Minister for Forests, Hon Rory McEwen. Mr Ross said the building showcased ForestrySA’s plantation timber business with timber used extensively in both the engineering and design features of the building. Much of the timber material was sourced from South Australian plantations with most of the radiata pine product coming from local mills and ForestrySA’s own forests. Specialty plantation eucalypt timber used for design features and furniture was sourced from ForestrySA’s plantations at Bundaleer and Wirrabara Forest Reserves. After the opening ceremony, invited guests, staff and media representatives enjoyed lunch in a marquee specially erected for the occasion. |
