OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH, SAFETY & INJURY MANAGEMENT
The ForestrySA Safety Committee, which comprises two management and six elected employee representatives, held eight meetings through the year and were responsible for the implementation of the following actions/activities –

Development of new ForestrySA Safety Instructions for:
Safety Footwear and
Sun Safe

Finalisation of the following Safety Instructions occurred:
Alcohol and Drugs;
Communicable Diseases;
Consultation Framework OHS&W;
Electrical Safety;
European Wasps;
Inspections/Audits;
Management of Visitors to Worksites;
Marijuana Crops;
Safety Helmets;
Smokefree Workplace;
Use of Oil Based Paints for Tree Marking;
Vehicles, Machinery and Maintenance, and
Working Alone;
Occupational Heath, Safety and Welfare and,
First Aid in the Workplace.

The Safety Committee has been involved with the completion of the following projects:
OHS&W Legal Compliance Register/Database
Safety Committee training
Action Group – Pruning

ForestrySA’s  program for becoming a smokefree workplace includes two stages. The first stage of the program involved no smoking during paid work time and allocating designated smoking areas. This was implemented in October 2003. In line with this ForestrySA provided quit information sessions through QuitSA to assist with the process for employees wishing to stop smoking.
Planning sessions in line with legislation and management systems have been developed at each worksite and are reviewed annually.
ForestrySA has appointed a Coordinator for OHS&W to facilitate the implementation of projects and safety targets.
