MANAGEMENT POLICY
|
|
|||||
|
ForestrySA is responsible for the
management of plantation forests and Native Forest Reserves
owned by the South Australian Government. Our business is to
establish and manage plantation forests, market wood to
industry and to provide competitive services to industry, the
community and Government.
ForestrySA is committed to responsible and
sound environmental management of plantations and native
forests. We will commit to manage and develop the forest
resource in a manner which is ecologically sustainable and
which will continuously improve our environmental management
practices.
Specifically, we will:
Continue to develop forest
management techniques that maintain the productive capacity of
plantation forests and are consistent with commitments given
under the National Forest Policy Statement.
Incorporate the principles of
ecologically sustainable development into all management
practices and to make a commitment to meet or exceed compliance
with all relevant legislative requirements and codes of practice.
Utilise renewable resources where
practical, minimise waste, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and
prevent pollution by practicing responsible avoidance,
reduction, and recycling and disposal techniques.
Conserve and enhance the
biodiversity of native forests.
Maintain cultural, historical and
scientific areas of interest.
Cooperate with the community and
agencies involved in environmental monitoring and impact
assessment.
Ensure all employees, contractors
and suppliers are aware of their responsibilities towards
environmental care and management.
Develop a cost effective
Environmental Management System compatible with internationally
recognised standards that will provide the framework for
setting and reviewing environmental objectives and targets and
the implementation of continuous environmental improvement
programs.
